Fill PDF Form Online — Auto-Detect Blanks, No Acrobat
Fill PDF form online — auto-detects underscore blanks plus AcroForm fields. Type to fill, download. Free, no signup, no Acrobat, runs in your browser.
PDFFlare's Fill PDF form online tool is a free, browser-based PDF form filler that auto-detects fillable form fields (AcroForm) AND blank lines in flat PDFs (the kind exported from Microsoft Word with underscores like Name: ____________). Drop any PDF, type your values into the structured input panel, download the filled file. No Acrobat license, no signup, no upload — everything runs in your browser via pdf-lib and pdf.js.
Use it as a fillable PDF form filler for IRS tax forms, HR onboarding documents, government grant applications, rental agreements, and contracts. Use it as an auto fill PDF form workflow when you have a flat PDF from a colleague that has visual blanks but no real fields. Pairs with PDFFlare's Sign PDF for adding your signature after filling, the Edit PDF for free-form text overlay (when you don't want structured field detection), and the Compress PDF for shrinking the filled file before emailing.
Acts as a free PDF form filler with no signup (fill PDF form free for anyone, anywhere), an online PDF form filler no signup needed, a fill out PDF form tool that handles both AcroForm and flat PDFs, and a reliable fill PDF without Acrobat alternative. Works on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android — anywhere a modern browser runs.

How to Fill PDF Form
Drop your PDF
Drag and drop any PDF — a real fillable form (IRS, government, HR, contract) or a flat PDF exported from Word with underscore blanks. PDFFlare detects which type it is and shows the right interface. The whole tool runs in your browser; your file is never uploaded.
Wait for auto-detection
If the PDF has AcroForm fields (real interactive form), PDFFlare reads them and renders proper inputs (text, checkbox, radio, dropdown). If it's a flat PDF with underscore blanks (like Word exports), PDFFlare scans for the blanks, detects each one's label from nearby text, and shows them in a structured form. If neither pattern is found, you can manually click on the page to place inputs anywhere.
Type to fill
Each detected field becomes an HTML input on the right side, grouped by page. Filled fields turn green in the PDF preview so you see progress at a glance. For real forms with checkboxes, radio buttons, or dropdowns, the right control type renders automatically based on the AcroForm definition.
Download the filled PDF
For AcroForm PDFs, choose flatten (locked, final) or keep fillable (recipient can re-edit). Flat-detected PDFs always save as flat (text overlays baked in). Click Download — PDFFlare writes the values into the PDF via pdf-lib and triggers a browser download. No signup, no upload, no rate limits.
When Do You Need to Fill a PDF Form Online?
Filling government tax forms (W-9, W-4, 1099): IRS PDFs are real AcroForm files — PDFFlare reads the fields automatically and shows proper inputs for each. Fill, flatten (so values can't be edited after), download, attach to your email or e-filing service. Beats printing-filling-by-hand-scanning by an order of magnitude on time.
Filling a teacher / HR / contract form created in Word: Most “forms” from Word are flat PDFs — just text and lines that look like a form. The underscores aren't real fields. PDFFlare's blank detection scans for underscore runs and places text inputs at each one with labels read from nearby text. This is the case where most other “PDF form filler” tools fall flat.
Filling a PDF on mobile (iPhone or Android): The two-pane layout stacks vertically on small screens — PDF preview on top, inputs below. Tap to fill each field, scroll between pages, tap Download when done. The downloaded file lands in your device's Files / Downloads folder for easy sharing.
Reverse-engineering an undocumented form: Got a PDF from a colleague that you're not sure how to fill? Drop it in. If it's AcroForm, PDFFlare shows you exactly which fields exist and what types they are (text vs checkbox vs radio). If it's flat, PDFFlare highlights every detected blank in the preview so you see at a glance which spots are fillable. Faster than guessing in Acrobat or printing-and-writing-by-hand.
Why Use PDFFlare to Fill PDF Form Online?
Auto-Detects Both Form Types
Real AcroForm PDFs (IRS, HR, government) → structured inputs read from the field definitions. Flat PDFs from Word with underscore blanks → blank detection auto-places inputs with labels from nearby text. Other tools only handle one or the other; PDFFlare handles both transparently.
Manual Field Placement Fallback
When auto-detection misses a blank (uncommon edge cases — dot leaders, hand-drawn lines, scanned images), click “Add field manually” and click on the page where you want an input. PDFFlare places one at that exact spot. No need to fall back to Edit PDF or print-and-handwrite.
100% Browser-Based
pdf-lib (read/write) + pdf.js (preview + blank detection) both run client-side. No upload, no server, no log. Open DevTools → Network and you'll see zero traffic during the fill flow. Safe for confidential PDFs — tax returns, HR forms, medical records, contracts.
No Signup Required
Free, unlimited, no account, no rate limits, no ads. Two save modes for AcroForm (flatten or keep fillable), zoom controls, page navigation, manual field placement, mobile-responsive — all client-side, all included.
